Supply Chain & Manufacturing
Supply chain managementThe end of the last quarter saw the UK enter a lockdown that lasted almost the entirety of this quarter. With businesses and factories mostly working on a skeleton staffing basis the supply chain has suffered some backlogs and shortages resulting in lead time increases.

As per the last quarter, carriers increased their pricing and that lead to surcharges being passed on through the supply chain.

As the quarter continued there were some signs of picking up as the PMI* posted at 50.1** in June after a low of 30 in May.

UK & Global Trends
ACL SM LineSterling had another tough period, suffering particularly on the back of the GDP data which showed the economy shrank by 2.2 pcs in the first quarter. This is the biggest drop since 1979. It has made recoveries on its 10 year low against the EUR but still remains on a downward trend. It has held relatively well against the Dollar but with fears over additional lockdowns in the world dampening hopes of a quick economic recovery, investors sought out the safe-haven Dollar. As the UK eases out of lockdown and the lack of Brexit progress weigh heavy, the gains of GBP are limited but as markets begin to calm the hope is it continues steadily in the same vain.
